HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS BOOK

1) To access to the Kaplan on line center offered you need to send an email to booksupport@kaplan.com and they will send you a link.If you go just to the kaplan page you won't be able to access.
2) DO NOT buy it from a seller called Super Deal Books because they are located in London and if for any reason you have to return a book TO them they charge you a re stocking fee and you are responsible for shipping charges to U.K
3) Kaplan has a huge reputation in high level tests preparation and to me the on line center and the chance to access from my phone as well is a great toll that no other book of this kind offers
So you have not only the 4 tests offered in the book but a lot more through the on line support center.

the book don't have 4 practice tests as they mentioned on the book. they have only 2 practice tests available and still working on remaining 2(may be available in 2015).
this is a complete bull*****, i came to know about the test just 1 week ahead of my exam. i wont recommend this book to anyone

Great book, great level and great material.

Best book for teaching and preparing for TOEFL. I've scored 20% higher after studying this book and so my students.
I've been teaching thru Skype for the last 6 months with this book, and it seems just nice. It won't teach you English, if you need that, go buy the Cambridge one, but it will teach you to master all the tricks, technics and flaws of the test. I highly recommend it.

This mantra is really powerful! I tried chanting Goddess K-Ma mantra in bed and it gave me so much energy that I did not have a wink of sleep at all, lol.
And I tried the other mantra for the whole day until I came home from work and was so tired and I felt a presence! She visited me and gave me energy! All I can say is awesome!

First of all ma Kali power is not dark
There are two ways of worshiping her rat hand and left hand
With mantra and devotion one worship her do prayers in this age she is the only most powerful shakti energy in this whole universe out side she looks more ferocious but from her heart this great mother is the most loving and giving boons to her children
The whole creation is by her and at the time of end everything merge in to her her creative energy and her destroying energy is amazing all powerful
I have been doing her mantra since I was 7 years old her mantra is very sweet very powerful most energetic then any other and there is always grace peace and joy emerging from repeating her great mantra

About the Author
Jean-Jacques Rousseau was born in Geneva in 1712. Abandoned by his father at the age of ten, he left the city in 1728 and from then on wandered Europe, searching for happiness. In 1732 he settled for eight years at Les Charmettes, remembered in his book Confessions. In 1741 he moved to Paris where he met Diderot, in the meantime fathering five children, all of whom he abandoned. His corwning achievement is his work of political philosophy, The Social Contract, which was published in 1762. He died in 1778. Peter France is the author of books on French and Russian literature and has translated widely from both languages.

Intriguing book -- and this is the translation to own.

Fascinating ruminations on the nature of being human and the meaning of -- and need for -- freedom in daily life. The translation is extremely accurate, faithful, and elegant all at the same time: and I know this because I've read some of the original French, translated it, and compared it with Butterworth's. You cannot do better than this translation.

Not His Best

The title is lovely, and completely inappropriate. "Paranoid Ramblings of a Once-Great Philosopher" would be more accurate. Some of the chapters are nice (particularly the one on nature) but overall, this is quite certainly not Rousseau's best book. Try the "Confessions" first.

Rousseauand I failed to bond

First, the admission: I didn't finish this book. I found its tone intolerably self-absorbed, endless whiny moans about how people had lied to him and about him, how they had wounded him, how they had driven him out to unwanted solitude, etc., etc., etc., to nausea and beyond.
By page 3, I was screeching "Let me out of here!"
In an effort to be fair to an author whom I didn't see as being very fair to his reader, I skipped ahead to other parts of the book to see if things improved. But no, he's still running about how he had been forced to leave Paris, then forced to leave France, then forced to leave Switzerland.
I was forced to leave the book. Will donate it to a library, anonymously..

Hi and a very warm welcome to "NFL (American Football)". A Fascinating Book Containing NFL Facts, Trivia, Images & Memory Recall Quiz: Suitable for Adults & Children. I'm one of those people who loves to hear about extraordinary facts or trivia about anything. They seem to be one of the few things my memory can actually recall. I'm not sure if it's to do with the shock or the "WoW" factor but for some reason my brain seems to store at least some of it for a later date. I've always been a great believer in that whatever the subject, if a good teacher can inspire you and hold your attention, then you'll learn! Now I'm not a teacher but the system I've used in previous publications on Amazon seems to work well, particularly with children. This edition includes a selection of those "WoW" facts combined with some pretty awesome pictures, if I say so myself! At the end there is a short "True or False" quiz to check memory recall and to help cement some of the information included in the book. Don't worry though, it's a bit of fun but at the same time, it helps to check your understanding. Please note that if you're an expert on this subject then you may not find anything new here. If however you enjoy hearing sensational and extraordinary trivia and you like looking at some great pictures then I think you'll love it. Matt.

Translation is helpful, Cleary's comments are not

Since the Dhammapada is a translation from the original Pali language, I have found it helpful to have several translations to better understand the true meaning. Here's an example:
From Thomas Cleary's translation:
Everything has mind in the lead, has mind in the forefront, is made by mind. If one speaks or acts with a corrupt mind, misery will follow, as the wheel of a cart follows the foot of the ox.
From Thanissaro Bhikkhu's translation:
Phenomena are preceded by the heart,
ruled by the heart,
made of the heart.
If you speak or act
with a corrupted heart,
then suffering follows you --
as the wheel of the cart,
the track of the ox
that pulls it.
From Ajahn Munindo's translation:
All states of being are determined by mind. It is mind that leads the way. Just as the wheel of the oxcart follows the hoof print of the animal that draws it, so suffering will surely follow when we speak or act impulsively from an impure state of mind.
As you can see, having several translations can offer a deeper meaning. Based on that, this book can be helpful.
Then "Why?" you may think, did I rate it only 3 stars?
I think of books on Buddhism, and the Buddha's teaching, in my own mind, by placing the book on one of 4 levels.
Level 1
These are written by someone with little knowledge on Buddhism, and seem to treat it as New Aged. These books are like: "Top 10 Things Buddha Would Do", "If The Buddha Drove an SUV", basically, not real teachings of the Buddha, but a very washed down version. (not real titles offered, and I hope they never get used!)
Level 2
These books are written with one or two main things from the Buddha's teachings and applied to helping people today. Things like using mindfulness to help with stress, or addiction. Someone with a meditation practice typically writes these books. They are important in helping people live a life freer from suffering.
Level 3
These are books written by people with a deep practice or those who are monastic. Typically the books offer real teachings with a real life perspective.
Level 4
These are books that are translations of the Buddha's teachings. These are the discourses. Books like, The Middle Length Discourses, The Connected Discourses, and the Dhammapada, etc. These are the actual teachings of the Buddha that have been passed down for nearly 2,500 years.
With that in mind this book, by Thomas Cleary, should be in the Level 4. However, his treatment of the layout and his commentaries, cast a shadow over the book. Cleary offers notes within the flow of the book. He did not place them at the bottom of the page, or in the back of the book. This does break-up the feel of the texts. His commentaries are in a font that overpowers the font of the actual teachings. Also, he refers to other religions to help explain the meaning. I found this unnecessary and inappropriate. Again, this is a book I would put in a framework of sacred texts. Plus, in a couple of instances his comments were out of line. Here's a translation:
Giving truth surpasses all giving; the flavor of truth surpasses all flavors; the enjoyment of truth surpasses all enjoyments; the destruction of craving overcomes all misery.
Cleary's comment of this wonderful teaching?:
"How pessimistic can you get?"
Does that seem appropriate in such a book? I think not.
Based on that and the other things mentioned I offer 3 stars. Don't get me wrong, the translations are helpful, it boils down to Cleary's comments and where they are inserted that brings down the overall rating.

OK Translation, Condescending Commentary

I picked this book up because of Cleary's wide reputation for translating Asian religious classics. The translation is pretty good, but the commentary is woefully insulting to Theravada Buddhism. In this book, Theravada is not referred to as Hinayana as it is in older Mahayana Buddhist books, but it is referred to exclusively as the Lesser Journey, essentially a literal translation of Hinayana. We are told that the Dhammapada, a staple of Theravada Buddhism, really belongs to the Greater Journey. (It should be remembered that Buddhism has no equivalent of the Bible, the Quran, or the Bhagavad Gita. Each Buddhist movement has its own favorite suttas. Some like the Lotus, others the Diamond, etc. However, the Dhammapada may be the most well known Buddhist primary scripture. Therefore, in Cleary's thinking perhaps, it has to be reclaimed for the Greater Journey.) It is translated, Cleary says, in that light. Truly, the translation is adequate, but it is the commentary that tries to force the work into Mahayana Buddhism. And it should be noted, only Zen Mahayana is mentioned, no word about Tibetan, Pure Land, or any other type of Buddhism, including, in Cleary's own estimation, the priggish and pessimistic Lesser Journey. We are told Cleary has a vast knowledge of spiritual wisdom from east and west, but truly his commentary shows his knowledge is of Zen, pre Buddhist Chinese works, and Islam. Impressive, but given that easy parallels with Christianity, Judaism, Hindu, and other forms of Buddhism could be made with the Dhammapada, it is hardly vast. Much of the work shows Cleary's abysmal knowledge of Theravada. We are told in Chapter X that compassion is ordinarily considered the hallmark of the Greater Journey, not usually associated with the Lesser Journey. Has he not heard of metta, the Theravada meditation practice of lovingkindness? I assume compassion is the hallmark of Mahayana only in Cleary's mind, and this bias has prevented him from clearly seeing the great goodness of Theravada. His summation of Theravada, the Lesser Journey, is found in the introduction. We are told that it is sterile and morbid, priggish and pessimistic. At least it is in the view of the Greater Journey...
Overall, I cannot recommend this book at all except to Mahayana chauvinists who feel certain that Theravada is beyond hope, but feel some Theravada works should be salvaged before the ship goes down completely. And those Mahayanists should probably be of Zen as lovers of Tibetan culture will find nothing here. This book is a dud: get the superb, commentary free Dhammapada published by Parallax and translated by Maitreya and Kramer instead. Interestingly Parallax is the publishing organ of Thich Nhat Hanh, about the only Mahayanist I know who actually likes Theravada Buddhism. One notices that he almost only quotes from the Pali canon, yet he is firmly in the Vietnamese Zen Buddhist tradition.

The Dhammapada text is fine. Cleary's commentary has a religious pluralism that is more American than Buddhist. I'm fine if Cleary has found a way to integrate many religions, but in a Buddhist text, it's best to leave other religions out of the commentary. Why would I want to read about Islam while reading the Dhammapada? I really don't want to know what Jesus might have said about a particular passage or what Moses would think about the Dhammapada. This seems to cause confusion. For those wishing to integrate multiple religions, there are many good texts for that already, but not a religious text like the Dhammapada. Neither would I like a Quaran full of comparative text from the Dhammapada or Vedas... Weird.

The best handbook in existence.

The Long Range Shooting Handbook gives a clear-cut, no B.S approach and explanation to the fundamentals of long range shooting. The amount I've learned from this book almost equals the volume of information contained therein.

It's reassuring to know as you read that Ryan is a man of experience unparalleled by other sources of information on this subject. As he mentions, his methods may start internet flame wars, but then, what do they really know? In this book, you won't find any useless, exclusive, sophisticated methods, but, rather, the straight truths and ways of the rifleman's art. Ryan learned this art in an occupation where his life and others' depended on the outcome. He is without question a master in this field.

Another thing to note is that many books on this subject which are introductory level, which the Long Range Shooting Handbook is meant to be, spend the whole book saying, "In (book, course, etc.) you will learn...," wasting space with useless photos, or bragging of the author's achievements. In reading Cleckner's book, you will forget it is even intended as a "beginners guide to precision rifle shooting." The cover should read, "An extremely comprehensive handbook guide to long range shooting." And yet it still remains accessible to the beginner.

With such a huge success in a beginners handbook, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel.

You won't find a more comprehensive and valuable guide to the subject of long range shooting in layman's terms anywhere. Period. If you consider yourself proficient in rifle shooting, do yourself a favor and buy this book. You'll find important concepts you had no idea of explained in a way you will understand and easily be able to apply and take your shooting skills to the next level.

Another plus for Ryan is that, while he recommends products, he doesn't spam, and only recommends tools of genuine usefulness. I've read some books that felt more like a catalog. None of that here!

I could go on forever, but, I've got shooting to do. The Long Range Shooting Handbook will be the absolute best purchase decision you've made for you shooting gear bag in quite some time. You won't regret it, and you won't be able to put it down.

I've been wanting to get into long range shooting ...

I've been an avid shooter for a long time and I really wanted to get into long range shooting. I actually read an article by Mr. Cleckner in another publication that I really enjoyed. So when I found out that he had a book coming out, I made sure I bought it as soon as it was available. I have been very satisfied with his book. Its written very much in layman's terms and I have learned something in every single chapter. To be honest, I have learned quite a bit in every chapter. Even the chapters on subjects I thought I knew were insightful and informative. This has turned out to be one of the best purchases I have ever made when it comes to improving my shooting skills and knowledge and I will be on the lookout for Mr. Cleckner's future books.
